The researcher applied the descriptive-correlational research design. A total of 97 support personnel, with regular status at FU, were chosen as the study’s respondents. A standardized questionnaire for the performance of the support personnel and a validated one for their motivation were utilized. Weighted mean and Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficients were used as statistical tools. The results of the study revealed that the extent of the support personnel’s extrinsic motivation is “high” while their intrinsic motivation is “very high.” It was also discovered that the support personnel’s performance “exceeds expectations,” particularly in the following areas: quantity of work, quality of work, job knowledge, work relationships, work skills, and time record. In terms of extension work, the personnel’s performance is classified as “meeting expectations.” Furthermore, the data showed that there is a significant relationship between the support personnel’s extrinsic motivation and their level of performance in terms of quality of work, and also between their intrinsic motivation and their level of performance in terms of work quantity and work quality.

Gilmilen Sanchez Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Higher Education Research Disciplines http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/201 Fri, 15 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0000 A Case Study of Child’s English Language Acquisition http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/202
The study delved into the English language acquisition of two young children who have been exposed to television and digital media at an early age. It is a qualitative research under the two-case study type. The two children who served as the subjects of the study were purposively selected. Video compilations, an interview guide, a checklist for subject-observation, and an open-ended questionnaire were utilized in gathering data. The findings revealed that the subjects’ early exposure to TV and digital media programs contributed to their grasp of the English language. Nevertheless, it was found that language input from the family members played a vital role in the two children’s language acquisition. Also, the results indicated that early detection of a child’s preferred and learned language is important to effectively assist him/her in the process of learning, while late detection of the child’s learned language causes problems on the part of the child. The results further showed that late detection hinders the child from effectively interacting with his/her environment and causes him/her to suffer from negative social experiences.
Maria Chona Futalan, Roxanne Futalan, Angela Gabrielle Bacang, Shalla Mar Quindo, Rona Faith Eraga Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Higher Education Research Disciplines http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/202 Fri, 15 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Effectiveness of Localized Apparatus and Mobile Application in Teaching Cosine Laws http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/203
The objective of this research was to assess the efficiency of using a localized apparatus along with a mobile application for instructing the principles of cosine laws. It also intended to measure the level of interest of the students in using the two interventions. There were 20 senior high school participants for each group. The study utilized custom-designed surveys to evaluate both the academic performance and the level of interest displayed by the students when engaging with the two instructional methods. In this study, various statistical techniques were employed, such as accuracy assessment, standard deviation analysis, mean calculations, t-tests for both dependent and independent data, and the Spearman's rho correlation. The findings from the research indicated a notable improvement in student performance following the implementation of localized apparatus and mobile application in teaching. It was also found out that students who have used localized apparatus portrayed higher interest compared to the students who have used mobile application.
Brando Piñero, Kimberly Joy Yucor, Maria Chona Futalan Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Higher Education Research Disciplines http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/203 Fri, 15 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Monitoring the Development of Kindergarten Pupils who are Exposed and Unexposed to Daycare Education http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/205
`The study aimed to monitor the development of kindergarten pupils who were exposed and unexposed to daycare education. The researcher made use of the descriptive-comparative design of research and employed the stratified sampling technique. The subjects were the 300 randomly selected kindergarten pupils. A standardized assessment tool was used and percentage, mean, ECD development index, and z-test were employed. The study revealed that the majority of the pupils who were exposed to daycare education had acquired the basic skills in the 7 domains necessary for the transition from daycare to kindergarten. Meanwhile, most of the pupils who are unexposed lack the necessary skills. The data further revealed that after the 2nd assessment, almost all pupils who were exposed to daycare education acquired the basic skills, although most of those who lacked daycare exposure still had acquired the essential skills but a remarkable number of pupils were not able to acquire such skills in the self-help and expressive language domains. Generally, the performances during enrolment and after the 2nd assessment of the pupils who were exposed to daycare education were significantly higher than the performances of the pupils who were unexposed.
Maria Chona Z. Teachers’ observations matter in identifying vocabulary development difficulties that might hamper their comprehension. This study seeks to identify the strategies used by 11 Grade 8 English teachers with 5 – 10 years of teaching experience in regular public schools. Findings from empirical data such as interviews and document-based sources reveal that lack of exposure to new words, lack of fluency and proficiency in the English language, and negative attitude towards reading are some of the difficulties encountered by learners. In addition, vocabulary strategies such as using online learning platforms, games, and conventional strategies were suggested as effective in addressing learners’ needs. It is recommended that learners’ ways of learning must be considered in order to help them with programs and interventions that will promote vocabulary development which enables and helps them accomplish individual and group tasks, engage in different conversations and work with different speeches as well. This study adheres to the importance of school administrators, curriculum designers, and language policymakers in devising a program that can help the learners develop their reading comprehension as well.
Val Joseph Viñalon Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Higher Education Research Disciplines http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/220 Fri, 15 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Code-Switching Types and Functions: An Analysis of Andrew E’s “SINABMARIN” http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/216
The goal of this study is to analyze the code-switching in the lyrics of Andrew E's “Sinabmarin” in order to categorize the different forms of code-switching and pinpoint their functions. In addition, the study also aims to learn the frequency of the code-switching phenomenon in the song. The research utilized the models of Hoffman (1991) for the types of code-switching and Appel and Muysken (2006) for the code-switching functions. The choice of this approach was influenced by the fact that the study’s data are expressed as song lyrics and other musical expressions. The qualitative research approach will be utilized and data will be presented by means of numbers and tables. The findings show that the lyrics to Andrew E.'s song “Sinabmarin” have 64 total frequencies for the types of code-switching and 60 total instances of the functions of code-switching in the eight (8) stanzas of the song. Present in the results are the three different forms of code-switching: intra-sentential code-switching, inter-sentential code-switching, and tag switching. Out of the six functions involved in code swapping, five were found to exist, according to the study's findings. Additionally, it was discovered that the intra-sentential type of code-switching and poetic functions appeared more frequently in the lyrics of Andrew E.'s song “Sinabmarin”, whereas phatic function was completely absent.
Elle Mitos, Hearty Gail Maxine A. The goal of education is to facilitate comprehensive development, and assessment is a fundamental tool for evaluating the achievement of educational objectives. The research investigates how teachers' gender, academic qualifications, and years of teaching experience impact their approaches to continuous assessment in biology. The findings indicate that teacher characteristics play a significant role in shaping continuous assessment practices. Female teachers tend to administer assessments more frequently and provide valuable feedback to students. Educators with higher academic qualifications demonstrate a better understanding of assessment theory and align assessments with curriculum objectives. Furthermore, experienced teachers excel in designing and implementing assessments but may benefit from ongoing support to prevent rigidity in their assessment methods. To enhance continuous assessment practices, it is recommended that tailored professional development programs be established for biology teachers. Additionally, mentorship programs can assist less-experienced teachers in improving their assessment strategies. Promoting gender-sensitive teaching techniques and encouraging educators to stay updated on assessment best practices are crucial steps toward enhancing biology education in Kwara State.

Florence Abidoye, Aladesuyi David Adeyemi Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Higher Education Research Disciplines http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/212 Fri, 15 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Post Pandemic Readiness of Senior High Students in Learning Earth and Life Science http://www.nmsc.edu.ph/ojs/index.php/jherd/article/view/221
This research aimed to investigate the senior high school students’ level of readiness in learning Earth and Life Science after the pandemic.
